At least eight people were killed and ten wounded, on Tuesday, when a bomb carried by a suspected Boko Haram suicide bomber went off on a highway in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno
State. The attacker was said to have driven a Volkswagen Golf car to the Muna Garage Market along Gamboru-Ngala Road at about 8:09 am. Rescue workers informed Saharareporter that the dead have been moved to the Borno State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri, while the wounded are currently receiving treatment in the same hospital.
Eyewitnesses explained that the driver brought four women and a child to the garage before the bomb exploded at the back seat of the car.
A transporter at Muna Garage, Babo Ali, said he saw seven victims after the blast.
“We were waiting for the military to open the road when a man in his mid-30s came from Custom area and pretending to be a transporter.
The next thing was that I saw myself on ground, covered with blood. I counted five dead bodies and some were injured.” Ali told SaharaReporters.
Before Tuesday, the last blast recorded in Maiduguri took place in May when a bomber hit the Borno State Secretariat Complex, killing 12 people.
